Türkiye has taken another strategic step to reduce its dependence on imported healthcare technologies and strengthen its competitiveness in global markets. The SEM Biotech VACUSEM Vacuum Sterile Blood Collection Tube Manufacturing Facility, established by SEM Group with an investment of USD 20 million, was officially inaugurated in a ceremony attended by representatives from the Ministry of Industry and Technology, the Governorate and Municipality of Silivri, the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ICOC), and the Istanbul Chemicals and Chemical Products Exporters' Association (IKMIB).
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Dr. İsmail Musab Gülaçar, Deputy Director General of Industry at the Ministry of Industry and Technology, stated:
“Today, we are inaugurating an important facility. Due to yesterday’s tragic attack, there was a change in our program. If we relate this to yesterday’s incident, factories serve not only as a source of employment for our young people but also as a source of guidance and inspiration. I hope we will see more projects of this kind in every region of our country. I congratulate Mr. Yavuz and his team on this achievement.”
“It Will Create Significant Export Opportunities for Türkiye”
Drawing attention to the fact that Türkiye has crossed an important threshold in high-tech manufacturing, Şekib Avdagiç, President of the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, stated:
“The investment realized by SEM Biotech is not merely a manufacturing facility; it is also a tangible reflection of Türkiye’s vision for high value-added production. The development and global commercialization of such advanced technology products demonstrate the level of both our technical capabilities and our human resources. Our country needs companies that are passionate about their work and focused on high technology. We believe that SEM Biotech’s success in this field will create significant export opportunities for Türkiye.”
Vefa İbrahim Aracı, Chairman of the Board of the Istanbul Chemicals and Chemical Products Exporters’ Association (IKMIB), also emphasized the export potential of the investment, stating:
“It is a great pleasure for me that my first visit and factory inauguration is at the facility of a friend who produces such high-level biotechnology products. We consider this strategic investment in healthcare technologies to be extremely valuable. SEM Biotech’s export-oriented production approach represents a significant achievement for our country. As IKMIB, we are ready to provide every possible support on the export side of this process. We will fully undertake our responsibility to promote high-quality, innovative biotechnology products in international markets and to position them strongly on the global stage.”
“We Have Established a Hub That Will Export Healthcare Technologies to the World”
Yavuz Eroğlu, Chairman of the Board of SEM Group and SEM Biotech, made the following remarks regarding the investment:
“Vacuum blood collection tubes are among the critical healthcare products that form the foundation of accurate diagnostics and reliable medical decisions. Thanks to their closed-system design, they enhance safety and reduce the risk of contamination. The supply challenges experienced by European countries during the pandemic once again highlighted the importance of a strong domestic healthcare supply chain.
For us, this investment is not merely a manufacturing facility; it is Türkiye’s gateway to the world in healthcare technologies. We have not established a production site solely to meet domestic demand; rather, we have built a manufacturing hub that will export biotechnology products meeting the highest quality standards to Europe and markets worldwide.
Our goal is to develop technologies that can compete with, and in many areas surpass, the companies that are currently global leaders in this field. Through this investment, we aim not only to reduce Türkiye’s dependence on imports in the medical sector but also to contribute to a transformation that will increase the country’s high value-added exports.
This is only the beginning for us. We will continue to expand our investments in healthcare technologies in the years ahead.”
A USD 20 Million High-Tech Investment
The SEM Biotech facility is positioned as one of Türkiye’s most advanced manufacturing centers in this field, featuring 20,000 square meters of indoor production space, a 2,000-square-meter ISO 8 cleanroom, an annual production capacity of 400 million units, and a high-technology manufacturing infrastructure classified as high-tech according to OECD standards.
The facility also operates one of the world’s fastest production lines. Each machine is capable of producing 9 tubes per second, placing the plant among the top-tier manufacturers globally in terms of production speed and efficiency.
